Frequently Asked Questions

  • You can take and join a mommy and me class as early as you feel comfortable with. All moms are comfortable with starting at different postpartum times, which is perfectly fine. Some moms feel comfortable attending the Mommy & Mini-Me class as early as 2-3 weeks postpartum. Some moms want to wait until the baby is older for the Mommy and Me class or Mommy and Me Senior. You do not have to take all three. It is completely up to you.

  • Each class starts with a check-in of your joys and challenges of the week. During the weekly check in, you can share as much or as little about how your week was. Since the babies are the same age and going through the same changes, it is an opportunity to share and get advice from moms going through the same experiences. Then the class gets started with the weekly topic presented by the specialist. While the specialist presents the topic of the week, moms and babies can relax and take in the information. There is always time for Q&A’s at the end and the class will naturally flow into discussions throughout the presentation. It is an informal class where moms can comment and ask questions at any point.

  • Every baby WILL cry at some point during class. Babies will pee, poop, eat, cry, laugh and that’s all OK. This is a safe space.

  • Our classes are 10-weeks long and you are grouped with moms in the same age category. The class is designed to help you create friendships and bond with other moms. Therefore, no make-up classes are offered. The mommy and me educator will send you the information from the class. If you ever feel uncomfortable to come or sick, the mommy and me educator can work with you to zoom in.

  • Moms come to class from all over the Middle Tennessee area and various counties. Counties including Davidson, Williamson, Rutherford, Wilson, and Maury County. We have moms come from Nashville, Franklin, Thompson Station, Spring Hill, Nolensville, Murfreesboro, Columbia, Smyrna and all over! We welcome everyone.

  • We understand that sometimes childcare is not available. Unfortunately, we do not allow older siblings in class. If you ever need help finding child care, please email us for providers we recommend. There are wonderful drop in daycares in the area. Our priority is to keep everyone healthy and we have a limit on how many people we allow in the studio at a time.

  • Please email us at info@southernschoolformoms.com for a refund 7 days before class starts. We understand things come up and happen. However we need enough time to fill the spot with a mom of a baby with a similar age.

  • If you financially cannot afford the full payment at once, we do offer a payment plan of 2 or 3 payments. Feel free to email us at info@southernschoolformoms to request a payment plan. We have a discount code if you sign up while pregnant, discount codes on handouts in the community, and class bundles.

  • Our goal is to offer you evidence and research based information for you to decide what parenting choices you want to make. It is up to you as to what advice you’d like to keep and which you’d like to toss. Parenting is not a one size fits all approach. We understand all parents and babies are different. What will work for you may not work for someone else. That is the beautiful part of motherhood.

  • Jillian is a Newborn Care Specialist trained by The Newborn Care Training Academy. She is also trained in car seat safety, breast milk storage and handling, safe sleep practices, and baby basics. For topics she is not trained in, there will be a local highly qualified professionals with extensive training. Our speakers include licensed marriage and family therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, pelvic floor physical therapists, postpartum doulas, lactation consultants, social workers, ASL teachers and so much more. You will have the ability to contact the specialist after class if you wish to work and consultant with them further.

  • You can register for any of the classes when you are pregnant. If you do not feel comfortable taking the 0-2 month class, you can register for the older baby series at any point before the age of the class. We aim to keep all the babies as close in age as possible. We also encourage moms to continue to the next series to learn more. The topics change in each series depending on the babies age.

  • This is YOUR time. You are always welcome to come with your baby or without. If you need a break and would like to come alone, it is always welcome. If you need a break during class, Jillian or the other class instructor can always hold your baby if you need to use the restroom or need a physical and mental break. We are all moms and get it.

  • We follow The Nationwide Children’s sick recommendations. We require both mom and baby to be fever free 24 hours before class. As well as no diarrhea, vomiting, wheezing, mucus, or contagious rash 24 hours before class. We take the safety of our moms and babies very seriously. We understand that in most cases it is best for a mom’s mental health to be around other moms and have their me time during the postpartum period. We know it is not realistic for a mom to exclusively keep their baby in the home during the first 6 months to prevent any exposures. We take the cleanliness of the space very seriously and take all procedures to clean in between classes. The mommy and me class is one of the safest places to go during the newborn phase because the moms are in the same position as you and very cautious. If you or your baby are sick, please reach out to your educator.
